P1 Graduate

The week we enjoyed a lovely celebration of all that Quinn and his classmates have accomplished at school over the last three years.  On Wednesday, the P1 class of 2012 "graduated".  Being the son of the principal certainly has its perks as Quinny got to be the first person to get his certificate and had personal stories shared in the opening speech (by Jim) about how be began three years ago clutching our legs every morning and having to be coaxed into class, how he has become a confident reader, and how now his posse of boys plus Nia take over the main office every morning before eagerly marching off to their classroom.
He was so lucky to have such thoughtful and caring teachers in Mrs. Feven and Mrs. Hammer over the past three years, not to mention a beloved PE teacher, Mrs. Troake, and fantastic after school teachers, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Brewster.  Of course, his experience was made wonderful mainly by his great great group of friends (Finn, Neil, Cameron, Ayden, Nia, Saraya, Naomi, Bella).

Somersfield's 3-6 programme was a memorable beginning to his school career.

Final Somersfield Spring Fair

Although it was a rainy day, the Somersfield Spring Fair didn't disappoint again this year.  The boys happily played game after game, built lego, rolled inside a giant rubber ball and ran around with their "mates" all day long.  The best part of the day was watching Morgan perform on the steel pans with the rest of his classmates.  What great experiences both boys have had while we have been on this little island.

Flashback to May -- Happy Birthday, Jim!

Flashback to April -- Easter in Florida

We had an unbelievable time in Florida this year and packed as much in as possible -- from mini-golf to playground picnics, the always popular zoo and a first time visit to the aquarium to see the real dophin from "Dolphin Tale".  Of course, as always, the highlight was splashing in the pool (no floaties this time!), and the amazing quality family time.

Catching Up

It has been a crazy few months...and I have been terrible about documenting it on our blog.  Since the end of January, we have:

  • enjoyed a February visit from my Nanna and Grampy
  • taken our first boat ride around Bermuda
  • made a traditional Bermuda kite
  • vacationed in Florida...this time for Easter
  • celebrated Jim's birthday
  • had the traditional Somersfield events such as character day, sports day and the Spring Fair
...and, of course...traveled across Canada a couple of times that led to us taking jobs in VANCOUVER!  We are so excited about our next adventure that will see us move from Bermuda on July 3rd, enjoy some family time in Ontario for a few weeks and then settle in Vancouver in early August.

In an attempt to "catch up", the next few blog posts will share some highlights...enjoy!

Our little musician

After years of going to piano recitals as a performer, I was very excited (and somewhat emotional) to attend a recital for my little boy today. After only a few months of lessons with his teacher Miss C., Morgan impressed us thoroughly with his performance of "Haunted Mouse". Hopefully this is the first of many more recitals to come.
